The Custom House is located within the Historic District of downtown Cairo. In addition to being a magnificent historic structure, it houses the Custom House Museum, one of the best museums on the byway. The Custom House was built to house the offices which dealt with collecting duties and tariffs on imported goods and materials that were being shipped up the Mississippi River.
